What are The Starlights?

This will be Summerfield Stage’s youth troupe (ages 8-18) that will perform at different community outreach events throughout the year. These events may include (but are not limited to) performing at Summerfield Founders Day, Oak Ridge Heritage Day, nursing homes in the area, tree lighting ceremonies, etc. Whenever there is a need or desire for a community performance, The Starlights will already be prepped and ready to go!

 

What is the expected commitment for The Starlights?

We will hold auditions annually for this troupe and upon acceptance, the troupe will have rehearsals to learn music and choreography for their performances for the year. After they have learned their material, they will only be expected to attend a brush up rehearsal before a scheduled event. For example, if they are scheduled to perform at a holiday event during a weekend in December, they will have a weekday evening rehearsal that week. We understand that all members of the troupe may not be available for every performance and that is okay - we will handle it as it comes. 

 

How can my child join The Starlights?

As stated above, we will hold auditions annually and they will be a member of the troupe for one full calendar year. All members will be expected to re-audition if they would like to participate the following year. Auditions for this year (2024) will be held on September 7th and 8th at Destination Arts - Summerfield Location from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm. All audition information will be available on our Facebook page and on our website. You can sign up for an audition slot here. Signing up for a slot is not mandatory, but it will help us plan!

 

Is there a fee to join The Starlights?

Yes. Upon acceptance, there will be a $50 fee per member to participate in the troupe for the entire year. This fee will cover each member’s personalized T-shirt which will serve as their uniform as well as any incidentals that may occur during the year for participation in events and any additional costuming/performance needs. Financial assistance may be available based on need.

 

I missed auditions but my child would like to join. Can they audition now?

No. Sorry, but we will not accept rolling auditions. The troupe will be formed based on the voices presented during annual auditions to create balanced harmonies. Although they missed auditions for The Starlights, they can still audition for our youth productions throughout the year.

 

Does my child need to be a part of The Starlights to be considered for the youth SSC Creative Starlights productions? 

No. Our youth productions are separate from our core youth troupe. You do not need to be a part of the troupe to audition for any youth productions and being a part of the troupe does not guarantee a part in any of our youth productions. 

 

I have an event/opportunity that I would like to book The Starlights for. How do I do that? Is there a cost?

We believe in community outreach and are starting this troupe to not only provide more performance opportunities for our youth, but to provide more opportunities for our community to enjoy the arts. 

 

This all sounds great, but I’m not a kid, I don’t have a kid, and I don’t have an event to book. But it sure sounds great. How can I support this?
